“So many of you have been thoughtfully asking where I’ve been,” he began his post. “Last week I was admitted to the hospital with a blood clot in my leg which sent some clots into my lungs.
“After some medical whack-a-mole, I am so fortunate to be getting terrific medical care and on the way to recovery. Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers and hope to see you soon. Have a great weekend, everyone.”
So many of you have gently inquired as to my whereabouts. I was hospitalized last week after developing a blood clot in my leg that spread to my lungs. I am so grateful to be receiving excellent medical attention and to be making progress toward recovery after some medical whack-a-mole. We appreciate the prayers and well wishes and hope to see you soon. Everyone have a wonderful weekend.
The TV celebrity has had health problems in the past as well. He disclosed that he had prostate cancer two years prior and had to have an organ removed. In addition, he had undergone a number of surgery for his hip and knee problems.
Since he began his career in broadcasting in the middle of the 1970s, Roker has received numerous awards for his newscasts. Even though he was dealing with a lot of health concerns, he recently finished the Brooklyn Half Marathon.
As expected, messages with well-wishes started pouring in. Among those who wished him a speedy recovery were Hoda Kotb, who wrote, “Al Roker– hurry back to us… counting the days xoxoxo,” and Jenna Bush Hager, who added, “Love you Al! Hurry home. You are missed and loved beyond measure!”
Dylan Dryer said, “Love you Al and praying every day for a speedy recovery!” And Craig Melvin wrote, “Love you brother…can’t wait to have you back!”
And Savannah Guthrie wrote, “You’re the strongest person we know. We miss you and will see you soon!!”
“He’s in good spirits, we’ve all talked to him,” said Guthrie said on Friday’s show. “He’s in great spirits,” Kotb further noted.
